If you visit the auction preview, you can get a form on site, fill it out and leave it with the staff.  You can also fax it to 888 / 274-7655 (Toll Free) or email it to stephen@riauctionservices by 6 a.m. the day of the auction.

How absentee bidding works.

For absentee bids, you can put a maximum you are willing to spend on the item, and someone from the auction staff, will bid on your behalf up to but not over the amount.  Your maximum amount does not include the 10% buyers premium or any applicable sales tax.  Rhode Island sales tax of 7% will be collected unless you have provided a copy of your resale number.  If there are multiple absentee bids left on a single item, the auction staff will match the bids prior to the auction and  bidding will commence at the highest bid of the first under-bidder of the absentee bids.  For example if there are three left bids on a table, one for $50, another for $100, and a third for $500, bidding will start at $100, the auction staff person in charge of absentee bids will then bid on the absentee bidders behalf until either the $500 top bid is reached or surpassed by a floor bidder, or the floor bidding has ceased and the absentee bid is the highest.  Unless other arrangements have been made with the auction staff, if the absentee bidder is the high bidder, the credit card left on the absentee bidder form will be charged prior to the end of the auction.

How phone bidding works.

Like for absentee bidding, to place a phone bid, fill out the phone bid form and either fax, email or give to an auction staff person at the preview.  Prior to the sale of the item, a staff person from the auction will call you, and will bid on your behalf during the sale.  If you are the successful bidder, the auction staff person will charge the credit card listed on the phone bidder sheet prior to the end of the auction.  The auction staff will do their best to attempt to contact you during the sale but is not responsible for misconnection due to phone problems, busy numbers or bad connections.
